asked questions
Starting something new can feel overwhelming — especially when it comes to your health. I know you probably have questions about what to expect, how my services work, and whether nutrition counseling is the right fit for you. This page brings together some of the most common questions I hear from clients, so you can feel informed and confident before getting started. And if you don’t see your question here, please reach out — I’m always happy to chat.
WORKING TOGETHER
-
During your first session, we’ll take the time to discuss your health history, lifestyle and goals. This includes a thorough assessment to understand your unique needs, preferences and challenges you are having. Together, we’ll outline a personalized nutrition plan and realistic objectives that align with your life. You can expect a supportive and collaborative approach, with a focus on behaviours that support your well-being.
-
No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to work with a Registered Dietitian in private practice in Ontario. You can self-refer and directly schedule an appointment for nutrition counseling.
Dietitian services are often covered through private insurance. Some providers may require a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner for reimbursement. It's a good idea to check with your insurance provider to confirm their specific requirements.
-
Currently, my practice is fully virtual. This means you can meet with me from the comfort of your home, no matter where you are in Ontario.
You’ll receive a secure video link before your session. We’ll connect just like an in-person appointment, but from the comfort of your home. All you need is a device with internet access.
-
Yes. I offer email support between appointments for quick questions or encouragement so you always feel supported.
FOOD & MEAL PREP
-
Yes — but instead of rigid, one-size-fits-all plans, I provide flexible frameworks tailored to your preferences, lifestyle, and goals. I’ll show you how to adapt meals so they actually work for your day-to-day life.
-
You don’t have to be a chef to eat well. I’ll show you simple, realistic options that fit into your schedule — from using healthy convenience foods to putting together balanced, no-cook meals.
-
Yes! I share recipes that are simple, approachable, and tailored to your needs. These come with prep tips and substitutions so you feel confident making them your own.
-
I’ll work with you to create nutritious options that respect your needs and still feel enjoyable. Whether it’s celiac disease, lactose intolerance, or other sensitivities, you’ll have plenty of foods to choose from.
MY APPROACH
-
My approach isn’t about strict rules, fad diets, or quick fixes. Instead, we focus on small, sustainable shifts that add up to real change. I combine evidence-based nutrition with practical strategies, so you feel supported, confident, and empowered — not restricted.
-
You’re not alone. Many of my clients come to me feeling frustrated after years of trying diets that didn’t stick. Together, we’ll leave the “diet” mindset behind and instead focus on building sustainable habits that support your health without restriction, guilt, or overwhelm.
-
That’s absolutely fine. My service focuses on health and well-being without the pressure of weight loss, which can lead to a more positive relationship with food and your body. Many clients work with me to improve digestion, manage symptoms, balance blood sugar, reduce cholesterol, or simply feel more confident in their food choices — with or without weight changes.
-
That’s normal — and it’s part of the process. I’ll help you set realistic goals, build accountability, and troubleshoot when life gets busy. You don’t have to do it alone.
INSURANCE & PAYMENT
-
Many extended health plans cover Registered Dietitian services. The amount varies depending on your provider and plan. I recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm coverage.
-
You can pay by credit card through my secure booking system.
An invoice is provided so that clients can submit to their insurance company if Dietitian services are covered, to help offset the cost.
-
I have recently changed my practice to have a minimum of 2 sessions. Clients find the most success with 2-3 follow up sessions after the initial consultation, as it allows time for follow-up, support, and adjustments as you go.
-
At this time, I am licensed to practice in Ontario. If you live elsewhere, you can still access my blog, recipes, and free resources.
